No Se Nada has several blog posts about earthquakes in the Bay Area.

The Sunday Magazine of the Chronicle has an article detailing what would happen today if an identical quake to 1906 hit the Bay Area today.

We are reminded that the Hayward fault is due for another >6 quake, which happens at least once every 150 years. Last one...1868.

Today is the 100th anniversary of the BIG 7.8 earthquake that leveled San Francisco. And there are a few people that still remember it. The oldest survivor (109) remembers a cow running down the street with its tail straight up.

Our neighbors gave an earthquake party. We watched the earthquake scene from the 1936 movie San Francisco. The special effects were pretty good for 1936 and Jeanette McDonald looked great!

Happy 100th San Francisco.

St. Stupid's Day Parade

It's April Fools in San Francisco and it's time for the 28th annual St. Stupids Day parade. April 1st is a holy feast day of St. Stupid, the patron saint of everybody.

To celebrate this worthy saint, his acolytes dress up in bubble wrap, play musical instruments, carry funny signs, slow down traffic, amuse the police department and pose for pictures for the tourists.

The stations of stupidity (the weekend version) start at the pointy building where all admire the pointy building and each other.

We sing a hymn of praise to espresso and say a prayer for the preservation of all caffeine products not of chains.

Happy 50th Birthday!

Lampshades hats and bubblewrap are proper attire for the worshippers of St. Stupid.

The last station at Joe DiMaggio playground. The St. Stupid band warms up by the doggies, holy icons of 50's diner food.

We end our walk of the stations of stupidity (the weekend version) with a feast at the Rose Pistola.

You can hear Enrico Caruso sing, watch old cartoons and new-reels from the forties, see Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcom X interviewed on television, see what Yahoo looked like in the 90s, watch Grateful Dead concerts, hear lectures from MIT, read over 10,000 books, watch the first attempts at film (love the early Brokeback concept), and for the truly nutty look at old screen-savers.

The archiving of software is complicated. Due to copyright law, there are few examples of early personal computer software to look at even though the software is no longer usable with today's operating systems and hardware. The archive has private copies of old software and is waiting patiently for the copyrights to expire. However you can look at Leisure Suit Larry.
